Within the property sector there is a fear of the looming recession and entering 2023 there was a worry on hiring freezes within businesses. A report released by TotalJobs at the beginning of January suggested that 32% of workers are concerned about job security and only 31% said they expect to look for a new job in 2023.
Here at Ambitious Group, we were cautiously optimistic going into January and we were right to feel like this. The market is incredibly busy right now, in fact, we have had one of our busiest Januarys’ to date and we see no signs of this slowing down heading into February.
We are seeing a sharp rise in salaries across all sectors and locations as companies race to get the best talent in their business. We are also seeing candidates understanding their worth and demanding higher pay to match the current cost of living crisis, TotalJobs reported that securing higher pay is the main driving force for job seekers (57%) in 2023. We recently managed to secure a conveyancing candidate an incredible 234.4% increase in salary, and we expect more of this to happen throughout 2023.
Don’t let the fear of job security scare you from moving jobs. If a company is hiring then it means they are in a good position and are future proofing by investing in their team. We have seen redundancies across all sectors in the UK which means we may see more job seekers on the market, therefore it is integral that you sell yourself well and put your best foot forward. Take a look at our latest blog on how to kick start your job search effectively.
The best advice we can give to hiring managers and companies is to advertise the salary. Candidates no longer will apply for roles that advertise the salary as ‘competitive’, according to TotalJobs, 62% of candidates would ignore job adverts that do NOT disclose the pay and benefits. Be open and honest with candidates and recruiters about the salary and you will attract higher quality candidates.
